Particularly noticeable are the deep black holes left behind by my boots on that light brown area. The raised mud was really, really black. Pitch black! It looks even "dirtier" than "normal" mud. I think it is especially well suited to our passion. For my part, I found it a great pleasure wading through this kind of mire with my tall riding boots — and then to listen to the gurgle out of the Mud...
